Lutherans love to eat (everybody knows that)

On this occasion it was a dinner following the installation of our first Associate Pastor Greg Truwe, but Mt. Calvary folks don't really need an excuse to put on the feed bag. Meals before Advent and Lenten services, Easter Morning breakfasts and meals on special occasions are just a way of life. And why not, when you have a Fellowship Committee consisting of gourmet cooks?

have a good time
Take the Friends in Christ group, for example. They meet monthly for fun and games, ice cream socials, baked potato suppers, you name it. Usually, you'll find them in the church gym, playing games, chatting, planning for nights out (like their annual pilgrimage to the Harlequin Dinner Theater), deciding what worthy cause they can support, etc. If you're male or female, young or old, married or single, they'd love to see you at 5:00 p.m. on the last Sunday of every month.
and the guys and gals who play Pick-up Basketball on Thursday evenings at 7:00 in the gym. Grab a pair of sneakers and come with a group or come by yourself. We make even teams and play for fun and exercise. Bring a towel if you'd like. We have showers.
and the Men's Summer League Softball Team. They open their season at the Alva Jo Softball Fields on Nacogdoches Road on June 6th. Need more information? Call Pastor Truwe at 824-8748 or e-mail him at gtruwe@mountcalvarysa.org.
and hit the road occasionally
Now we're talking about the Daytrippers. They board the Mt. Calvary van once a month and head out for points of interest in the surrounding area with their driver and tour guide DCE Josh Zammit. Sure, most of them are retired folks, but we don't ask for ID or a boarding pass, so everyone is welcome. The latest outing was to Serbin, Texas on May 20th for noodles and a history lesson. Call Josh at 824-8748 if you'd like to know more about this group and where they'll be going in June.
And then there is the Walking for Wellness program. A group of women has started getting together on Thursday evenings to enjoy each other's company as they go for a walk through the Mt. Calvary neighborhood. They bring a light dinner and meet at 6:00 p.m. By 6:30 they have eaten and begun their walk. Join them and begin walking for wellness.
And now, during all of June and the first week of July, 2008, a Family Recreation Program will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the gym. Need more info? Call Butch Watson at 210.659.1298.
but they also like to combine fellowship with Bible study !
like the Kingdom Seekers. They're a small group of folks who get together at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the home of a group member, study scripture and then chat a while over coffee and sweets. A similar group meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month. (Old Lutheran custom - evening affairs almost always begin at 7:30.) Now if you're a morning person, there's a class at the church at 9:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Better check the Church Calendar just to be sure, however.and MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers). MOPS is open to all moms of children newborn to six years old. Their May meeting is Monday the 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. You won't want to miss this meeting because they're having a relaxing spa night! The meeting falls on the day after Mother's Day and they'll be continuing the celebration. Come ready to relax. This group is looking forward to growing, so spread the word to friends and neighbors who are looking for a time with other moms to share life's celebrations and challenges. For more information call Jamie Truwe at 590-2458 or Amy Wille at 826-2771.
