Mary/Martha Guild
Mt. Calvary's Mary/Martha Guild is a local society of the National Lutheran Women's Missionary League. The Guild meets at 7:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the parish hall. All ladies of the congregation are encouraged to attend and visitors are always welcome.
Mite offerings are collected each month to support mission projects of the District and National LWML. The group supports eight mission projects of its own each year. To raise funds for the mission projects, the guild has four bake sales, one meal for the congregation during the Lenten season, two potluck dinners and a Christmas brunch for the ladies of the congregation. The guild also serves meals following funerals for families who have lost a loved one.
The Mary/Martha Guild belongs to the North Alamo Zone, which is part of the Texas District LWML. The national LWML is made up of districts from across the country. The LWML is mission oriented and does wonderful work locally, nationally and worldwide through its mission projects.
Mt. Calvary's Quilters
This group of eight to ten ladies meets twice each month to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Some of the ladies sew the tops and bottoms of the quilts at home so that on quilting day they can put them together with batting. Instead of quilting as most people know it, the quilts are tie-tacked together. The quilters try to make at least a hundred and twenty quilts each year and are happy when they exceed that goal. They are never short on material as they get donations from people throughout the year. They encourage anyone to join them on the first and third Wednesday of each month and help with this worthwhile project.
MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers)
MOPS is open to all moms of children newborn to six years old. This group is looking forward to growing, so spread the word to friends and neighbors who are looking for a time with other moms to share life's celebrations and challenges. For more information call Jamie Truwe at 590-2458 or Amy Wille at 826-2771.
Walking for Wellness
Looking for a reason to get up and get active? You're in luck! A group of women has started meeting together on Thursday evenings to enjoy each other's company as they go for a walk through the church's neighborhood. They bring a light dinner and meet at 6:00 p.m. By 6:30 they have eaten and begun their walk. If you are bringing your Junior High kids to church for an activity on Thursday, this is a wonderful time killer. Otherwise, you may simply want to come for the exercise and conversation. Come and begin walking for wellness.
