The Music Ministry
at Mount Calvary “Friendship, Musicianship,
Excellence” MUSIC MINISTRY
AT MT. CALVARY “Oh sing to
the Lord a new song; Sing to
the Lord, all the earth! Sing to
the Lord, bless his name; Tell of
his salvation from day to day.”
(Psalm 96:1-2) The goal of the music program at Mt. Calvary is stated
simply in this verse. Through our hymns, liturgies, and other musical
activities, we sing God’s praises and tell the world about His salvation.
Mt. Calvary maintains numerous musical ensembles which
serve to fulfill this two-fold goal. The Chancel Choir is open to all confirmed members of
the congregation. This choir sings works from the finest in choral
literature from throughout the history of the church, and has recently been
very active in teaching new hymns from the Lutheran Service Book.
Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:00, and the choir sings in
services on a regular schedule. The Celebration Ringers is our premiere handbell
ensemble. Players of various skill levels gather for rehearsal on
Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30, and likewise ring in services on a regular basis.
The Youth in Christ is a vocal ensemble for youth,
grades 6-13. This group also sings fine choral literature, and rehearses on
Thursday evenings. The Mt. Calvary Brass Ensemble plays for services and
occasional community events. Besides a common goal, the one characteristic shared by
each of these ensembles is that there is room for YOU!
